Equipment Operator

Pentagon Group has immediate openings for experienced Equipment Operators to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario. Candidates must have experience with equipment operating procedures as well as driving & transporting equipment. Candidates must be able to read and interpret plans and locates on site. A strong safety conduct is required as safety is a key to our success!
Responsibilities and Experience
- Document all repairs performed each shift and make note of any upcoming repairs required (Preventative Maintenance)
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment.
- Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Miscellaneous jobs assigned by the Foreman
Qualifications
- 2+ years of equipment operation experience
- Must have experience operating mini excavators and backhoes
- Safety certificates (First Aid, Ground Disturbance)
- Ability to meet physical requirements (bend, sit, lift, and stand for prolonged periods of time)
- Commitment to a safe work culture
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.

- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work in a fast pace environment

Candidates must have experience with drilling/locating procedures as well as driving & transporting drills. Candidates must be able to read and interpret plans and locates on site. A strong safety conduct is required as safety is a key to our success!
Essential Responsibilities
- Transport drilling equipment to and from location
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment.
- Read/Interpret maps, designs, and locates
- Safely operates directional drilling equipment and locating tools
Qualifications
- Must have 2+ years previous directional drilling/locating experience
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
- Have valid safety certificates (First Aid, Ground Disturbance)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Vermeer experience is an asset
- Previous experience in telecommunications is an asset

HydroVac Truck Operator

Pentagon Group has an immediate opening for an experienced HydroVac Truck Operator to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario. The HydroVac truck operator will support the construction team in the installation of telecommunication equipment. The selected candidate will be responsible for driving, operating, and the general upkeep of the HydroVac.
Responsibilities and Experience
- Effectively operate the HydroVac truck for daylighting (exposing/unearthing)
- Operate the HydroVac in a safe and effective manner
- Transport equipment to and from job sites
- Conduct pre-operational, en-route, and post operational inspections of equipment
- Complete various mandatory reports (drivers’ logbook, daily vehicle inspection, maintenance reports, accident, and incident reports as needed)
- Miscellaneous jobs assigned by the Foreman
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in operating and driving a HydroVac truck
- Trained in the proper operation and maintenance of the HydroVac truck
- Valid DZ driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Ability to confidently operate around underground utility services safely
- Be familiar with CVOR requirements
- Commitment to a safe work culture

Candidates must be able to perform various construction tasks, including the use of landscaping and power tools (compaction plates, jumping jacks, cut saws, air compressors etc.). Responsibilities and Experience
- Execute work safely, adhering to company and site-specific policies and regulations
- Accurately maintain vehicle records, work orders and timesheets
- Assist with traffic control as directed
- Operate equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Occasionally assist HDD crews, Aerial Crews, equipment operators and VAC truck operators.
- Maintain an active cellular phone
- Other miscellaneous jobs assigned by the Foreman
Qualifications
- Must have previous general labour experience in construction, landscaping, excavating, heavy equipment, and driving vehicles & trailers
- Ability to meet physical requirements (bend, sit, lift, and stand for prolonged periods of time) and safely lift 65 lbs
- Commitment to a safe work culture
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract – AR license preferred
- Experience with mini excavator preferred
