Community Development Program Assistant

FUNCTION:

Reporting to the Community Developer or, in her absence, the Director of Administration, the Community Development Program Assistant will deliver and lead virtual and in person recreation, arts and sports programs for children youth & occasionally adults ensuring participants have a safe and enjoyable program experience.

DUTIES:

  • Planning weekly activities in social recreational child and youth programs.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops using a variety of platforms including in person or online.
  • Prepare the community spaces by gathering and setting up equipment.
  • Ensuring that the community space is clean after each program.
  • Monitoring inventory, sourcing, organizing and distributing program supplies as needed.
  • Recording and reporting on program attendance and statistics.
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of community services and programs for children youth in the local area & refer clients to services when appropriate.
  • Maintains the confidentiality and security of client-related information.
  • Prepares and maintains accident and incident reports when necessary.

EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Graduate
  • Relevant Post Secondary Education in a related field.
  • Understands the developmental and recreational needs of children.
  • Ability to accompany and supervise participants in a variety of environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation. (Duty to Report)
  • Has previous knowledge and experience of appropriate actions to ensure the health and safety of vulnerable children and youth.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Programming skills in crafts, sports, games, creative play, stories, and music.
  • Ability to follow verbal and/or written directions/procedures.
  • Ability to accompany and supervise participants in a variety of environments.
  • Experience planning and operating recreation programs for preschoolers, children and/or youth.
  • Ability to use the Zoom & Google meet platform and deliver programs virtually if required.

OTHER:

  • Valid driver’s licence and use of a vehicle.
  • Clear criminal reference check.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR (level C).
  • Must be available to work evenings and/or weekends.

The position pays $16.25 per hour for 6-12 hrs a week starting September 26th, 2022. Shifts start after 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (depending on availability) in a variety of community settings in the west end including Barrhaven, Greenbank area and Centrepointe. Must be available to travel to all locations.

Access to a vehicle is an asset.
